Is That a Teapot???

Thursday, June 6th, 2013

You know that quaint community called Zillah on the outskirts of wine country? It has an interesting historical landmark that has been turned into a visitors’ center.  The Teapot Dome Service Station was relocated last year into the center of town from its original home along the old Yakima Valley Highway.  It was originally handcrafted in 1922 by Jack Ainsworth who was inspired by the Harding Administration’s Teapot Dome Scandal.  Along with the move, it was renovated back to its original 1922 splendor and situated in a park like setting for the community and visitors to enjoy.  (Just remember that it isn’t a place that you can actually get gas or an oil change anymore.)

The Teapot is a nice location for humans and canines alike to make a quick stop before heading into wine country.  Not only can you take a facilities break, you can also grab some Yakima Valley information that will help you navigate the area and wine country.  There are picnic tables available for a biscuit break as well. Be sure to stop by and check out this unique aspect of the Yakima Valley.
