How to Turn Your Love of Animals into a Dream Career

There are plenty of ways to earn a living by working with animals that don’t require the  several years of schooling becoming a vet potentially would. Here are a few ways to do so:

Become a pet adoption counselor. If you’re a sucker for a happy ending, this could be  a great option for you, as this job entails matching homeless pets with their perfect  parents. Many animals that wind up in shelters or humane societies have been through  some tough times, which is why it’s so important that they end up with loving people who  will give them the secure home they deserve. This is a career where you’re helping make the dreams of animals and humans come true.

Train to be a pet masseuse. Yes, animals enjoy a massage just as much as humans.  And similarly, those massages are therapeutic. Pet masseuses commonly work with aging animals and those who are experiencing pain. It’s rewarding work that will allow you to help an ailing animal get back on (all four!) of their feet.

Try pet sitting. Even if you aren’t looking for a brand new full-time job, pet sitting in your free time may give you the four-legged fix you’ve been searching for. However, plenty of people do make a career out of pet sitting. This job requires you to do all the things for a client’s pet that you’d do for your own, including feeding, walking, and of course, playing! This is another way to bring happiness to both pet and parent, as you will be providing peace of mind for humans and lots of tail-wagging and head-nuzzling for dogs and cats.

Consider being a humane educator. Unfortunately, some people don’t view animals as the wonderful, loving creatures they are, and therefore don’t treat them with the respect they deserve. That’s why humane educators work globally with both children and adults to teach people to treat animals with compassion, including pets and animals encountered outside. These teachers leave a lasting impression on their students, and help shape how societies treat creatures both great and small.

I’m a firm believer that everyone should love what they do. Generally speaking, most of our waking hours five days out of the week are spent at work – that’s too much time to be doing something that doesn’t bring you some sort of joy or satisfaction! If any of these ideas have sparked your interest, open yourself up to the idea of a change. It may just be what you’ve been looking for all along!

Maple C. is currently working her dream job as a motivational coach. She recently launched her blog where she writes about the importance of pursuing your passions, following your dreams – and letting inspiration in.

IMG_1376 It’s been awhile since I’ve heard from my pal Bung..but my owner just told me that Bung is getting ready for a big Birthday Bash … and guess what?!?!?! … I FINALLY get to meet him.  I can hardly wait!!! Here’s a little bit of what Bung has been up to lately … See you at the BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY!! ~Penny the Pill

Hi to all my friends from Bung the Wonder Dog. Boy, I am one happy dog this month. Grape harvest has begun. I love this time of the year with so many new and old winemaker and wine grower friends stopping by every day. There are so many tractors and bins and ripe grapes to smell- I am in doggie Heaven!

But the best thing about harvest is the arrival of my new best little friend and playmate: Wilson!! His owner is our winemaker assistant for crush, and WILSON comes with her every day. He is so cute and such a fun puppy (only18 weeks old) that he makes me feel so young. We chase and play and explore together- and then crash and take naps together. I am teaching him a lot of new tricks and he is teaching me patience!

My BIRTHDAY is coming up and we are celebrating at Bonair Winery on September 19. All day is yappy hour and donations are accepted for our true friends who are helped by the Humane Society. And guess who is coming to see me: PENNY THE PILL. I read her blog (with the help of my human owners) and she looks pretty cute- can’t wait to meet her.  I will keep you posted! ~Bung the Wonder Dog
